There’s little that home-design nerds like better than getting their hands on dark, dated paneling. What was deemed warm and inviting in the ’60s, today feels dreary, especially when paired with a matching brick fireplace. When Megan, the blogger behind Homemade Ginger, bought a home complete with this living space, her design wheels started spinning.
And after a few stages of upgrades, Megan’s final result is a serene family room. She ditched the dark walls for bright white, but only on the fireplace and built-ins. Paired with a warmer tone on the paneling, the room becomes welcoming and beachy, instead of stark.
Pops of blue and green (we love the teal peeking out on the back of the bookshelves!), new hardwood floors, and lots of personal touches offer a lived-in, but put-together feel that looks great flooded in sunlight.
