Living Room Layout Ideas
Entrance – The living room entrance should be close to the main entrance of your home. Though, in many homes the entrance opens into the living room, it is more desirable to have a small lobby or foyer leading to the living space. This ensures privacy of the living room and segregates the activities around the entrance from this space.
Proximity to other spaces – The living room should be close to the kitchen and dining. This makes serving and entertaining guests very convenient. Recent trends show that living room layouts are planned next to landscape elements like gardens or water bodies. This allows extending the living room activities to an open sit out area like a lawn or balcony. These spaces can be visually connected using large windows or french doors to enhance the aesthetics of the living room. This also ensures that the living room gets abundant daylight and is well ventilated.
Furniture – The furniture plays a key role in the living room experience. Thus, it is important to decide a unifying theme for the living room and pick furniture accordingly. You should ensure that the living room has ample seating space. Opt for sofas, chairs, pouffes or chaise for seating. If you wish to provide a T.V unit, plan it opposite the primary seating zone to facilitate viewing. The seating zones should be close to a service area. To cater to this need, add a coffee table and a couple of side tables to your living room. The coffee table acquires a central position in the room, so make sure you pick an attractive one. Apart from this, the living room can boast of display units like shelves, consoles, glass cabinets and library units.
