You’ve finally overcome the major design challenge of finding a cohesive group of living room furnishings you love. But now you’re faced with an equally tricky task: Finding the perfect place to put it all.
If arranging (or re-arranging) the living room is on your to-do list, have no fear. Heide Ziecker, lead designer at Meredith Baer Home, has four easy layouts to cater to your specific room and living room desires. Read on to learn her easy-to-follow tips for arranging a living room that is both stylish and practical.
Situated around a fireplace, this layout features two sofas (think six-foot loveseats) facing each other. At the far end of the layout is a larger sofa (think an eight-foot sofa) that faces the fireplace from across the room. Two small chairs are situated in front of the fireplace, facing the rest of the furniture.
A large coffee table in the middle anchors the layout.
“I like it because you’re using the whole room,” says Ziecker. “Placing two chairs in front of the fireplace [creates] a square that feels complete in terms of conversation.”
